It's been a busy few weeks around here - and thus the gap in posts. But I received a bit of news this week that warrants a celebration of sorts!
On a whim and a bit at the last minute, I decided to submit this painting to a jury for the Mayor's Art Show here in Eugene.
It is an annual event here - you pay $20 and submit your work to a jury that's different every year, and they pick a variety of works from artists in the community for the yearly art show.
I know that many cities have these sorts of events - but it's a bit of a big deal here in a small-ish community with many many amazing and talented artists.
I submitted a piece last year, but didn't get in. Admittedly I wasn't ready and while I love the painting I submitted, it wasn't ready for display either.
So imagine my complete delight when I received word that I got in to the show this year! I honestly can't believe it and I am so humbled and honored at the same time.
There were 208 entries and 46 selections. And mine was among them.
Which means that I can stop saying - "Yes, I do some artwork on the side" or "oh yeah, I dabble" or "sure, I guess I'm an 'artist'".
Now I can say, with confidence, that Yes I am an Artist. With a capital A.
p.s. Stellar Cupcakes made by my children on summer vacation...aren't they amazing and hilarious?
